Everything you need for a story about Bearhugme. No press list, no agency, just email me directly.
17.3 million people in Germany live alone according to the Federal Statistical Office, about 21% of the population, a number that keeps rising. Bearhugme is my answer to that, born out of a very personal reason.
I built Bearhugme because I kept catching myself wondering whether to call my mother or not. Not because of anything specific. Just to be sure.
There was no app in between. Only emergency-alert systems for real crises, or messengers where you have to keep asking. So I built one myself.
One tap a day on a bear. That's it.
Bearhugme is an app for two: for the person who lives alone, and for the person who thinks of them.
One tap on a bear, once a day. No data entry, no numbers, no health quiz.
Sees that today's tap happened. If it doesn't, an email arrives. Otherwise: quiet.
Bearhugme is an app for a daily sign of life between two people. Once a day, one person taps a digital bear; the other, their "Lieblingsmensch," sees right away that all is well. No emergency-alert tech, no tracking, no obligation to reply, just a warm, daily signal. The app was built alone by founder Nicole Jänchen and has been available for iOS and Android since June 2026. Direct downloads, no login, no press list.
No. For real emergencies, you need a dedicated medical-alert device. Bearhugme does something else: it gives every ordinary day a small sign of life.
The core function (tap, see, know) is free. Additional features for a small fee are planned.
A German founder, Nicole Jänchen, alone, for a personal reason. She previously held senior product roles at idealo and Axel Springer, and now builds Bearhugme entirely solo. More on that below.
Yes. The German version is called Drück mich and shares the same app and the same bear. More at drueckmich.com.
